Bios:

A-Trak (Hip Hop set)

The ‘DJs DJ’ since he won the 1997 DMC World DJ Championship at a prodigious 15 years of age, the man some call Elaine turned the art of turntablism back toward its original party-rocking focus, riding the line between hip-hop and electro in a refreshing hybrid of everything ass-shaking. His collabs read like a who’s who in the music zoo and after years of schlepping vinyl, accumulating air miles and dressing smart, A-Trak has become the man to call to make the hipsters dance. He’ll be doing an extra special hip-hop set at Field Day for those gifted music heads capable of stroking that chin while dancing their intelligent arses off.

Aeroplane

Composer of fully orchestrated rock-disco epics, like Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds on a collision course with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon as Trevor Horn, Jim Steinman and Giorgio Moroder battle for supremacy in the studio. Titanic dance beats, noodling Moogs, the sort of moodily meandering guitar licks that music papers used to describe as "tasty", guest stars ranging from the perfectly in tune to the frankly barking, and songs that don't know the meaning of the word restrained. The album is called We Can't Fly and it's a coked-out classic of Studio 54 disco meets madly overblown mid-80s movie soundtrack pomptronics. Did we say it was bonkers? It's wearing a bandana, it's got its foot on the monitor, there's dry ice everywhere, and Tony Montana's in a cubicle hoovering up most of Bolivia. That's how crazy it is. And it's all the work of one man – Vito DeLuca. God knows what the inside of DeLuca's head looks like, but this is awesome.

Art vs. Science

Biggie vs Tupac, , Mohammed Ali vs Frazier , David v’s Goliath, Mel Gibson vs Everyone.. We all LOVE a public spat. Come and watch creative bearded types battle it out against nerdy spectacle-wearing professors LIVE at Field Day
Oh wait, that’s not right.

...

Baio (Vampire Weekend) DJ set

From what’s now one of the biggest indie acts on the planet and the most joyously creative, Vampire Weekend bassist Chris Baio will be performing his DJ set of mind-bogglingly eclectic fun, covering anything from Afrobeat to indie rock, nu-wave to cutting-edge pop. He might look like an IT consultant but he has been known to DJ wearing French maid outfit. Afraid? Yes, but secretly excited too – admit it!

...

Beardyman

Better than Michael Winslow from Police Academy, beatboxer extraordinaire Beardyman is set to wow crowds with his oral hi-hats and kick drums. He’s already pulled off an Elvis impersonation, a monkey on stage at Bestival and even Austrian Climate Change Lecturer Professor Bernhard Steinerhoff so knowing what he will bring come New Year’s Day is anyone’s guess.

...

Casiokids

When retiring legendary Norwegian pop gods a-ha announced they were giving away 1 million kroner (roughly AUS $190,000) of their own money to an up-and-coming band in their homeland as part of a huge competition, it seemed like the ultimate parting gesture by a band who've enjoyed heaps of global success.
Casiokids received the most votes and were kronered the winners.
That’s completely awesome!
Album of perfect, unmissable Scandelectronica coming soon – keep an ear out for it. It’s very very good.

..

Chromeo

Would make a good name for a superhero don’t you think?
Marinated in an 80s-plundering scrapbook of talk boxes, gloopy synths and digital funk, Chromeo claim to be the only successful Arab/Jewish partnership since the dawn of human culture. Embarking on a UN peace-breaking mission to Field Day with a shameless return to their glistening, sex-saturated synth-pop.
Keep it in the family: A-Trak’s big brother David is one half of Chromeo.

...

The Cool Kids

Remember when hip-hop was a party? The Cool Kids do. Openly tongue-in-cheek, they are quite obviously laughing at each other’s punchlines, in mutual awe of how aptly-named they are. If they don’t satiate your hype-riddled appetite, then you would be well-served to shut off your computer, remove yourself from the power of the web, throw their tracks on your ipod and rethink your position.

Duck Sauce (Armand Van Helden & A-Trak, exclusive Australian appearance)

(a). a condiment with a sweet and sour flavor and a translucent orange appearance similar to a thin jelly that is used by some Chinese American restaurants.
(b). is the vintage crate-digging disco-inspired collaboration of Armand Van Helden and A-Trak and the biggest thing in dance music this year bar none.
Only one of these is available at Field Day, in an Australian exclusive! Sorry to disappoint Iron Chef fans but it isn’t (a).

Erol Alkan

Have you heard the one about Erol Alkan? The humble 12 year old maestro-in-the-making who sneaks out the window of his parents flat to play gigs for a tenner? About the bearded studio-sorcerer worshipped by bands and DJs half and twice his age as a living electronic idol? About the kid in his early 20s who founded that Trash night in London where they’re playing Bowie and basslines at the same time? I heard that he invented the mash-up. I heard that he created the second coming of French Touch just by remixing Justice’s “Waters Of Nazareth”. I heard he brought guitar music back from the grave. No, it was electronic music. Or was it reggae? I heard he once revived a Roland 303 just by looking at it. Didn’t you hear? He’s bringing psychedelia back? Wait – I heard he’s bringing Disco back? Didn’t you hear?

...

Jamaica

The smart, sassy hooksome indie-dance duo formerly known as Poney Poney, reincarnate, creating a sound that is a meeting between a grungehead's obsession and a hair-rocker’s wet dream, yet you can dance to it. Oh and they’re produced by Grammy Award winners Peter J. Franco and Xavier de Rosnay (AKA Justice).

...

JUSTICE DJ set

Enough said.

.

Klaxons

The instantly legendary and completely incendiary Klaxons are about to follow up their incredible first album and storming singles like Gravity’s Rainbow & Golden Skans with a brand spanking new album Surfing The Void any day now, another blast of excitement from one of the most important and exciting rock bands to have set foot on a dancefloor this century! Hot on the heels of that and hot single Echoes you can catch them live in the flesh at Field Day: Alllll riiiight! We’ll be front and centre, guaranteed. Just don’t mention the R word... ;)

...

Marina and the Diamonds

Embarking on a rampant, stomping adventure, letting no idea lie still if it can be crashed into another, loudly. Marina and her shiny diamonds mix sparkling pop with dazzling darkness, skipping from glam-disco and bubblegum punk to quavering piano laments in a flash.
Kinda like Josie and the Pussycats but not a cartoon (and sexier). Really.

...

Mystery Jets

Perfect pop: I liken them to a cross between The Coral and The Zutons. Dramatic and eclectic at the same time, perfectly fitting a band from a small island called ‘Eel Pie Island’, which has a population of 120 people. 120. Look at your Facebook friends list. You have more friends than this place has people.

...

Neon Indian

A gauzy combination of Buggles-style 1980s pop, video game soundtracks, and cheeseball elevator music, Neon Indian songs like ‘Deadbeat Summer’ and ‘Should Have taken acid with you’ are effervescent, goofy, and achingly nostalgic. Kind of like MGMT on a ramen budget-- and with less face paint.

..

Peaches DJ set

Showstopper, panty-dropper, everybody's favourite shocker Electropunk Queen, Peaches rides the wheels of steel and who knows what else? Come along for the ride.

...

Plump DJs

No introduction necessary. The Plumps, stars of the very first Field Day are back to celebrate 10 new year’s days worth of good times!

...

Public Enemy

Performing their legendary album ‘Fear of a Black Planet’ LIVE in full at Field Day, Public Enemy rewrote the rules of hip-hop, becoming the most influential and controversial rap group of the late '80s and, for many, the definitive rap group of all time. Word.

...

The Rapture

Heroes of punk-funk, these guys cornered the market waaaay before the flood of indie-dance acts that followed. The New York-based band have created an indie-electro-rock juggernaut that draws upon everything from acid house to punk, funk and straight up rawk’n’roll. These boys blew the crowd away at Parklife last year, living up to their reputation for being astronomically excellent live.

...

Sleigh Bells

At this point you don't need me to tell you Sleigh Bells are a pretty f***ing huge deal . Their sound is entirely theirs and incredibly catchy and comprised almost completely of wow factors and everything we love about LOUD music: bleacher-stomping beats, Gibson SG metal riffs, schoolyard chants and a compelling live presence. We predict ‘tell em’ for our ‘Field Day moment of 2011’

...

So Me vs DVNO

So Me creates all of Ed Banger’s lush artwork and DJs at all the Ed Banger parties. DVNO is a track on the Justice album and its vocalist Mehdi (but DJ Mehdi), who’s also the lead singer from Scenario Rock who yells Disco, Disco Disco! on their massive hit ‘Skitzo Dancer’.
What’s going to happen when these two collide?
My guess is some sort of space-time-continuum-black-hole to the stone ages or possibly the end of the world… but let’s hopes not, there are a few more acts I’m hanging out to see on the day ;)

..

Tame Impala

Deservedly hyped Perth band play acid rock with a dash of leftfield, organic sounds and their still new album Inner Speaker exceeded said hype. In our opinions an instant classic, packed with monster, anthemic work-outs. Incredible live too.

...

Tensnake

Tensnake does euphoric tropical disco rhythms. His sound is future retro, without stepping backward. Huh? Listen to Coma Cat (one of our favourite tracks of the year): sounds like it was specially engineered in an interstallar disco lab to hit every pleasure centre imaginable. Pure, unadulterated dance music, oozing both sex and a sense of goofy fun. Lose yourself!

...

Trentemøller

So what do we know about Denmark apart from once being home to Vikings, Napster hater Lars Ulrich and even more importantly Lego? It also plays residence for Danish super producer Anders Trentemoller!
Not content with blurring the lines between deep techno and glowing electronica, Mr ‘Moller will be bringing the live experience of recent release ‘The Last Resort’ to the people with a full backing band and visual delights. If you’ve only caught his DJ sets don’t miss this: it will be very special.

Yuksek

The not-ugly-at-all Yuksek mans the pop cannons and bombards the dancefloor with instant classics at Field Day 2011. Can he do this while simultaneously fending off all Fuzzy ‘s female staff? Bets are on...
To get you in the mood here’s some revision that Yuksek kindly put together:

Zombie Disco Squad

More bass than a room full of Michael ‘Flea’ Balzarys, Zombie Disco Squad will be more than likely turning the Domain into a de-construction zone for Field Day 2011.
Already having impressed the likes Jesse Rose and Dirtybird chief Claude von Stroke, there will be no need to moisturize your dainty fingers for a chin stroke but prep them for an ear-blocking just to stop your brains oozing out.
