Past Event: HARBOURLIFE 2009

Announced 04 August, 2009

Martin Solveig
When it comes to eclectic house masters there’s no bigger than Martin Solveig. Responsible for seminal house classics Madan, Rocking Music, Everybody and Jealousy, Mr. Solveig's latest album, the aptly named C’est la Vie, features the ubiquitous title-track banger and the massive One 2.3 Four, both of which are on their way to becoming bona fide anthems of 2009. So after touring the world and playing to more people than songs on iTunes where to after that? With a unique sense of collaboration and fashion the next step was logical: team up with the sensual sassiness that is Dragonette and the ultimate designer of Parisian chic, Jean Paul Gaultier, and produce one of the most watched film clips this year, Boys & Girls. Filmed in the opulence of the grounds of Gaultier, there could there be no better transfer of Martin’s soundscapes to fit the scenic surrounds of Harbourlife!

Bag Raiders (Live and debuting new material)
After blowing Australia away with their electric live show on the Parklife national tour in 2008, the recently signed to Modular/Bang Gang 12 inches Sydney duo Bag Raiders, aka Jack Glass and Chris Stracey, will be again tearing it up at Harbourlife! Dominating YouTube, radio and clubland with infectious electro bombs Fun Punch, Nil By Mouth and Turbo Love and setting the blog world alight with power-packed remixes of Chromeo, Cut Copy, Kid Sister and K.I.M, the Bag Raiders have now exploded into the stratosphere on the back of the amazingly euphoric Shooting Stars, which can be heard anywhere from JJJ to your local Thai takeaway. And with work on their debut album causing more buzz than a case of Red Bull, the question beckons, is there any stopping this juggernaut?

Stanton Warriors
Among the very few acts who’ve simultaneously kept the spirit of breaks while moving forward staying fresh and relevant, the Stanton Warriors will celebrate releasing the 4th instalment of their seminal Stantons Sessions compilations by returning to Australia to rock the sandstone steps of Harbourlife for the very first time! And what can we expect? Nothing less than a distillation of everything that’s gold on the dancefloor, crafted by a duo who over the years have remixed the likes of Missy Elliot, Fatboy Slim, Basement Jaxx, Mylo and Busta Rhymes, scored more Breakspoll and DJ Mag gongs than you can point the proverbial stick at and performed at countless clubs and festivals around the world, all of which make them one of the most highly revered names in dance music today.

Holy Ghost! (DJ Set),
Holy Ghost!, the New York-based duo who took their name from a Bar Kays track, have become in what can only be described as a blink of an eye, the hottest, most-hyped act on the inimitable DFA imprint. Comprised of the multi-talented Alex Frankel and Nicholas Millhiser (Alex toured with LCD Soundsystem, Nick was a part of The Juan McLean live show and both were part of hip-hop outfit Automato), Holy Ghost! first caught our eye when they remixed Gotham City by long-time friends Panthers. Madness ensued with the enigmatic James Murphy winning the hotly-contested race for their signature. Following this were Balearic/nu-disco re-workings for the likes of Phoenix, Michael Jackson, Moby, In Flagranti, MGMT, Cut Copy and originals I Will Come Back and the massive Hold On, making it on every “Best of 2008” list you could find, ensuring that Holy Ghost! will be one of the most in-demand producers for some time to come.
