Returning to Australia after sell out shows in 2008 with the Parklife tour, Philadelphia native Diplo headlines the latest Killer event at The Metro, Sydney on Friday 8 January 2010.
One of the most innovative DJs and beatmakers of the moment, founder of Hollertronix DJ collective and the ever-growing Mad Decent label, Diplo's production credits include work for a slew of performers such as M.I.A., Santigold and Bonde Do Role.
A pioneer of genre juxtaposition, on stage Diplo creates eclectic DJ sets where elements of hip hop, dancehall, house, Baltimore club, classic rock and the totally unexpected are skillfully chopped and blended to generate a frenetic party atmosphere where one can't help but get a little crazy.
No stranger to our shores, Diplo was one of the three founders of Heaps Decent, a non-profit organisation proudly supported by festival promoters Fuzzy, that's dedicated to developing the talents of indigenous and underprivileged youths. Heaps Decent workshops to date have seen artists including M.I.A., A-Trak, Spank Rock, Lady Sovereign and Busy P collaborate with at risk youths and has seen the release of Diplo’s Smash A Kangaroo and Koori Girls, featuring The King Sisters & Pase Rock. The Lair will be showcasing performances by established Indigenous artists including Last Kinection, Radical Son and Stunna Set, plus showcasing some aspiring young artists who have been participating in Heaps Decent workshops for the past year. For some of them this will be their first time performing in front of an audience.
Supporting Diplo is fellow Philadelphian Amanda Blank, whose rapid fire hyper-sexual rap style first emerged on Spank Rocks hit Bump and more recently on her 2009 debut album I Love You, a diverse solo effort featuring production by Diplo and serving up everything from electronic hip hop to nu-rave to R&B synth pop and rock-rap hybrids.
