RBMA WEEKENDER SYDNEY ANNOUNCES HEADLINE SHOW

Globally renowned four-day festival to feature 40 artists and 12 shows curated by Jimmy Sing (Goodgod Small Club) and Jamie Bennett (Crown Ruler).

Following the hype of last week’s festival announcement, the first show for the Red Bull Music Academy Weekender Sydney has well and truly landed.

Sydney’s own Flight Facilities today announce that they will be bringing their huge orchestral live show to The Domain, performing alongside the acclaimed, 50 piece Sydney Symphony Orchestra with some very special guests joining them under the stars in Sydney’s Domain.

Inspired by their spine tingling, sell-out show at Melbourne Festival alongside the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra last year, the duo will be creating a new, one-off show with Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Red Bull Music Academy. With a few surprises along the way, Flight Facilities will be presenting their deep catalogue of singles alongside hits from the Gold-certified, 3 x ARIA-nominated 2014 debut LP Down To Earth.

With headline shows at Splendour in the Grass, Laneway Festival and a bombshell debut album under their belts, this landmark event will see Flight Facilities in their element, performing hits that include ‘Sunshine’, ‘Two Bodies’ and what will surely be an unforgettable rendition of “Clair de Lune” (For a sneak peak view here).

Flight Facilities are a fitting act for Australia’s first Red Bull Music Academy Weekender, a globally renowned, four-day city takeover and curatorial festival program featuring 40 artists across 12 signature events curated by trusted purveyors of taste and close champions of innovation in music and culture, Crown Ruler’s Jamie Bennett and Goodgod’s Jimmy Sing.

Bennett is best known for his work touring artists such as soul-jazz icon Roy Ayers, Theo Parrish and J-Rocc, and is responsible for the impeccable programming on local Red Bull Music Academy stages from Splendour to Laneway Festival and beyond. Jamie joins one of Australia’s most respected and knowledgeable curators in Sydney’s own Jimmy Sing, fresh from programming the ‘Goodgod Super Club’ Opera House series at this year’s Vivid Festival, to lead the creative direction of the Weekender program.

Across multiple unique locations, Red Bull Music Academy Weekender will span an all-inclusive celebration and exploration of Sydney’s rich cultural identity, interlinked with today’s contemporary music climate. Joining previous city hosts – Tokyo, Vienna, Warsaw and Stockholm – the Weekender program will bestow global attention upon the local talent and transformative minds behind some of Australia’s greatest cultural contributions.
Red Bull Music Academy’s long-running legacy of cultural celebration has for 18 years provided music fans and artists with unique musical experiences that play host to the world’s brightest tastemakers and performers. Australia has thankfully played its part in building this legacy, playing host to club shows with Clark, Onra, Romare and Taylor McFerrin, to the Chronicles series with Boiler Room and Ta-ku, to showcasing the likes of Jamie xx, Thundercat, Four Tet and Nicolas Jaar at Laneway Festival and Splendour in the Grass stages respectively. All incarnations of Red Bull Music Academy foster creativity in music, encouraging collaboration and expression at home and abroad. The recent announcement of Red Bull Music Academy Festival in New York includes the likes of Dizzee Rascal, Spike Lee and Anohni headlining, alongside local heroes and Academy alumni alike. Red Bull Music Academy Weekender Sydney will take a similar approach to programming, with the full lineup to rollout in June.
